Aquatic Supervisor

Position Summary
To provide support in leadership for the Aquatics programs at Deer Lake Beach and Spray Park. The individual in this capacity has specific duties relative to their job, in addition to, the general rules, policies, procedures, and expectations of the Department.

Although every detail of the day-to-day job may not be included in this job description, the Aquatics Supervisor will be expected to perform the duties required to administer a successful summer that provides a positive experience for all participants. Keep in mind; enthusiasm and communication is key!

Reports to: Beach Director and Swim Lesson Director
Positions Reporting to this Position: Lifeguards

Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age, have a general understanding of the operations at Deer Lake Beach, Spray Park, have the ability to work with children to grow in character, experiences and insights, and have an excellent knowledge of lifeguarding and basic first aid.

Responsibilities
• May perform Lifeguard Trainer Duties
• Responsible for opening and closing the beach.
• Assign daily, follow, and enforce daily rotation shifts for guards.
• Making sure daily responsibilities are completed.
• Maintain proper aquatic staff numbers as per patron numbers and/or weather conditions.
• Document all of beach/staff incidents.
• Responsible for all customer service issues.
• Write up daily deposit and transporting after close of business.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
• Assist in pre-season set-up of Deer Lake Beach.
• Be on active lifeguarding duty during daily beach operations at Deer Lake Beach from Memorial Day thru Labor Day.
• Must attend pre-season training and orientation for lifeguards.
• Responsible for checking 02 Cylinders, AED and rescue equipment during opening and closing procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining professionalism of themselves and lifeguards.
• Responsible for documentation of beach and staff incidents.
• Follow “Ellis and Associates Make It Work Handbook” guidelines and protocols as well as Independence Township Parks, Recreation & Seniors Aquatics guidelines and protocols.
• Maintain safety at the beach by ensuring all Jeff Ellis and Associates Beach operation lifeguard protocols are followed.
• Responsible for receiving a passing grade during in season lifeguard testing and evaluations.
• Responsible for being trained on and being able to properly use the emergency rescue boat.
• Maintain a clean/safe beachfront. This includes but is not limited to: filling in beach holes, fixing rope and buoy positions, removing fecal matter and picking up and changing garbage cans.
• Attend weekly scheduled and emergency scheduled trainings/in-services.
• Responsible for assisting swim lessons as needed.
• Responsible for working Splash into Summer End of School Party.

 

Training
• Become certified (re-certified) through the Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Training Program provided by the Township.
• Work with the Beach Director and Recreation Supervisor on how to open/close the beach along with Daily Operations.

Communication
• Work with the Beach Director on daily and weekly projects
• Support the Beach Director in communicating what forms need to be refilled at the beach and spray park.
• Support the Swim Lesson Director with the operations of lessons and step in when needed.
• Update the rain out hotline when necessary for closures and inclement weather updates.
• Assist in the evaluation of lifeguards for mid-summer and end of summer evaluations.

It is mandatory that all employees work at least an 8-hour shift for Independence Fest. The job duty on this day will not reflect the duties of the above position.
