Run or walk in the MOM (Mind Over Matter) Walk/Race for Mental Health Awareness & Suicide Prevention on May 22nd at 10am, rain or shine.
U.S. suicide rates are at a 50-year high and continue to climb. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in America, claiming 48,344 lives in 2018. CDC lists suicide as second leading cause of death for older teens. While there's still more we need to understand, one thing's for sure: suicide is becoming harder and harder to ignore. And, contrary to popular belief, suicide rates are the highest in the spring - even without the stress of a global pandemic.
In a sea of canceled events, at a time we need it most, the 2021 MOM (Mind Over Matter) Race is still on - just with a COVID-19 social distancing twist. On May 22nd at 10am, Calvary's LIFE Ministry Team will be joining the Virtual MOM Walk/Race for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention. Click to join Calvary's LIFE Ministry Teamor make a donation.Registration is not required.
Calvary's LIFE Ministry Team has marked out a couple of routes (1.5 mile & 3.7 mile) for our local version of the MOM Race, each beginning and ending at Calvary Lutheran Church's Clarkston Campus. We are putting measures in place to maintain appropriate physical distancing observed throughout the race while enjoying the beautiful landscape Clarkston offers in Spring. If you'd like to join us, but aren't in a place right now to join in person, please consider walking in your neighborhood or local trail or park as well. That's the blessing of this time, Better Together, in person or miles away.
Also consider honoring a loved one lost to suicide or paying tribute to someone who names mental health as an area of emphasis or struggle. Know that even if you wait to decide till Saturday morning, join us and take this opportunity to work out some of your Coronavirus worries, revitalize your spirit, and nourish your soul. Registration is not required. These might be challenging times, but we’re all in this together. You matter. You are not alone. Jesus is calling us to make a difference. Mind your health, heal your mind, help others, support the MOM mission!
