Shannon and Cortney Casey are certified sommeliers and the owners of Michigan By The Bottle Tasting Room, with locations in downtown Auburn Hills, Shelby Township and Royal Oak. MBTB is an innovative wine bar/tasting room concept that works in cooperation with small, family-owned Michigan wineries to bring wines from around the state to the Metro Detroit area. The Caseys were the first in the state to operate a tasting room that united multiple, previously unaffiliated wineries under a single roof. The brick-and-mortar locations developed out of the Caseys’ just-for-fun original blog, MichiganByTheBottle.com, that has promoted Michigan wineries with articles, videos, podcasts and more since 2009. Since launching in 2012, the tasting rooms have grown from a single location with just the Caseys behind the bar to three locations with a crew of nearly 40 dedicated team members. The Caseys also are managing partners for Blue Skies Brewery-Auburn Hills and partners in Layover Coffee Bar, both in downtown Auburn Hills. Sounds like everything was easy and now they’re a huge success, right? Learn more about the bumps along the way and moving forward through rejection to get to the other side.
