The position at Oakland HOPE, is funded through Public Allies Detroit and is a unique opportunity designed to offer a hands-on experience of the day-to-day operations, management, outreach, and participate daily with a busy, growing non-profit social service agency. Candidates should possess strong communication abilities, attention to detail, aptitude for multi-tasking, as well as the capability of working effectively with the public and working independently. Note: You must be available to attend virtual weekly Leadership Development Training on Fridays from 11am-5pm.

Immediate placement 30-35 Hour Per Week. Hours of operation Tuesday thru Saturdays.

  • Monthly stipend of $1,530 (pre-tax), paid biweekly
  •  Access to health care and child care

  • Education award of $6,195 at the completion of the program Position Description
  • Support daily operation of the Food Pantry
  • Provide pantry client first-line customer service as an “Intake Specialist”
  • Use the Pantry System to search, input, and update client and visit information
  • Train and support other volunteers working as Shoppers and Intake Specialists
  • Participate in development and update of Pantry policies and processes
  • Help develop and maintain documentation of Pantry operations
  • Provide backup and support for the Pantry Coordinator in oversight of Pantry operations

You will work under the immediate supervision of the Pantry Coordinator in collaboration with the Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator. Our Thrift Store is the funding mechanism for our Client Choice Food Pantry, that was formed within Oakland County. Mission: Motivated by the love of God to transform our community by alleviating hunger and empowering lives. Vision: Oakland HOPE will partner with other local organizations to alleviate hunger and empower lives. We will serve our neighbors through a client-choice food pantry, while providing nutrition and household budgeting education, increase access to human services and job training, and offer a wide range of services and resources for the under-employed and working poor, all from a single location.

Job Qualifications ALLOWED SCHOOL YEARS Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior in a two/four year college institution ALLOWED MAJORS All Documentary/Film, English, Creative Writing, Operations Management, Human Resources, Retail and Hospitality Administration, Marketing, Social Work/Human Services, Human and Child Development, Family and Consumer Science, Counseling, Anthropology, Sociology, User Experience/Social Computing, Computer Science, Radio, Television, Media, Public Relations, Digital Communication, Advertising, Journalism, Communication and Media Studies, Urban Planning, Public Policy, and Public Administration majors.
